Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.0- XP Professional only Hardware Requirements Required Processor: Pentium 133 MHz Required RAM: 128 MB Required HD: 10 Gig Video: must be run at 1024 x 768 or higher CD Player to install software Additional Recommended Hardware Devices for backing up: For ease of use, if using CD's the CD should be formatted so it acts as a disk drive. Programs like In-CD allow for this. Office Express has settings that will backup the data automatically to the device without the user having to "burn" a CD. The ideal situation would be to have at least two of the following four: 1. a USB 256MB Jump Drive (also known as a memory stick) . This device can be easily stored in a safe place. 2. a CD burner with a CD formatted to act like a disk drive. Obviously the CD can easily be stored in a safe place. 3, another computer connected to a network. Fast and easy to back up to. 4. an external USB hard drive. If only used for backing up Office Express' data files a bit of overkill. The external concept becomes even more important if the computer is also being used to connect to the internet. Having backups that can be stored off the internal hard drive will help protect in the case of a destructive virus. Update Windows Frequently Make sure to install the latest service packs and critical updates. The easiest way to make sure that you have all the proper patches is to visit Windows Update at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com. When you go there, click on "Product Updates". The first time you visit, you will be asked to install a small plugin into your web browser. Accept this and then the system will scan your computer to see what updates you need. Don't worry, no information is being transferred to Microsoft. You'll then see a huge list of potential updates. The ones you really need to pay attention to are in the "Critical Updates and Service Packs" section. Check the appropriate boxes and hit "Download". The updates will then be installed automatically. Depending on which updates you install, you may or may not need to restart your computer. You should visit Windows Update at least once a week for all your computers running Windows.
